Roughly 150 people attended the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Whitehall Apartments, a permanent supportive housing residence for veterans in need. Whitehall is located at 3795 Schuylkill Road in East Vincent Township in Spring City. It is the product of the renovation of the historic Whitehall Inn. Mission First Housing Group developed The Whitehall in response to a local need for housing for at-risk veterans and a national effort to end veterans homelessness. Director of business development for Mission First Housing Group Mark Deitcher told the Daily Local News that Whitehall’s development “has been a labor of love” for the organization. Planning stages for the housing center began in 2012, when Mission First began talks with the Veterans Administration, Chester County Department of Community Development and Housing Authority of Chester County to determine veterans’ housing needs in the county. Whitehall has 48 apartments for veterans; comprehensive support services provided by the Coatesville VA Medical Center and onsite amenities that include a community room, laundry facilities, computer room and fitness center.
