After receiving multiple complaints of suspected identity theft, the Caln Township Police Department issued a warning for those who went to the same Thorndale business. They determined that all the victims had purchased gas at the Exxon station located at 3727 Lincoln Highway in Thorndale between March 7 and March 13. During their investigation police located and seized a skimming device that was attached to a card reader at one of the gas pumps. The device was not visible and couldn’t be detected without accessing the gas pump’s cabinet. Police say the person or persons who placed the skimming device there were then able to create cloned credit cards. Those cloned cards were then used at various locations, primarily in the Philadelphia area. Caln police urge anyone who has purchased gas at that Exxon location in March to review their card account activity. Police ask that anyone who discovers they are a victim of identity theft or suspect their card may have been cloned, to contact their local police department and reference this incident.
